Our restaurant celebrates the Italian-American heritage of New Haven’s historic Wooster Square. On our menu, you’ll find unfussy Italian dishes, wood-fired specials, and pastas made fresh in-house.

AVI SZAPIRO

Avi, a skilled chef with a culinary degree from the CIA in NY and an executive management degree from INSEAD, trained under Michelin-starred chefs and top-ranking restaurants. Originally from Bogota Colombia, he cultivated his expertise in various global culinary hubs like Paris, London, Lyon, Barcelona and Mumbai. Avi gained insights into nutrition and logistics for large-scale meal production while working for a global not-for-profit organization that teaches meditation globally. His former restaurant ROIA earned acclaim from the New York Times and a nomination for best restaurant in CT in 2019. 

During the pandemic, he spearheaded an effort that resulted in a partnership with World Central Kitchen, providing 1200 meals daily to front line workers and bringing 15 local restaurants back into active operations. The same model was later adopted by the city of New Haven to feed 400 homeless people three meals a day.

Avi has also supported many not-for-profit organizations in New Haven that focus on food, children, education and the elderly such as Common Grounds, Mary Wade Foundation and CitySeed. Avi resides in New Haven with his wife and daughter.

TIM CABRAL

Tim Cabral is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of expertise in the restaurant and hospitality industries. His journey began at a young age as a dishwasher, and he has since worked his way through various roles in both the kitchen and front of house at esteemed establishments across Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Florida, and California. 

In April 2013, he, along with three partners, successfully launched Ordinary, New Haven’s oldest tavern, which was listed in Condé Nast’s best bars in the world list. In April 2018, he played a crucial role in the opening of Porrón & Piña at the prestigious Goodwin Hotel in Hartford, where he continues to serve as Beverage Director. His dedication to the industry extends beyond his establishments as he is also the co-owner and co-founder of New Haven Cocktail Week, an annual celebration of community featuring education and tastings.

Outside the industry, Tim is a dedicated member of the New Haven and Greater Connecticut community, actively supporting charitable organizations like Columbus House, Common Ground High School, All Our Kin and No Kid Hungry. His passion for both his craft and community is evident in his commitment to excellence and giving back.
